Quarter notes: upcoming

On October 31, Seattle’s Early Music Guild presents the Tudor Choir. The Seattle based Tudor Choir will sing pieces by Flemish composers. The performance will happen at Town Hall.

The Russian Chamber Music Foundation of Seattle offers up its fall concert – Autumn Evenings – on October 30 at the Nordstrom Recital Hall. The concert features music by Arensky, Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky, and Shchedrin.

The day before, the Seattle Symphony will play Bernard Herrmann’s score to Psycho

while the movie is projected overhead the stage. There are additional screenings of the film on October 30 and 31.

On Sunday, Orchestra Seattle and the Seattle Chamber Singers perform their annual all Bach concert. The program lineup includes the Violin Concerto in A minor, Missa Brevis in G and the cantata Gott der Herr ist Sonn und Schild.

On the same day, the Chinese pianist Lang Lang, returns to Benaroya Hall for one performance of Beethoven’s Second Piano Concerto. Maestro Schwarz and the orchestra will also play Beethoven’s Sixth Symphony and the Coriolan Overture.

There is also a quasi-classical concert at the Seattle Art Museum with knowing about as well. John Hollenbeck and his Claudia Quintet are playing as part of the Ear Shot Jazz Festival. You can hear samples of Hollenbeck’s music at his old web page. His style doesn’t easily fit into the Jazz box nor does align with what I typically associate with classical or ambient music.

Here is a video of the Claudia Quintet Playing.
